It also takes the reader back to a time where the land in which all identities were embraced and often shared were ripped from beneath their feet. A land so pure and loved now soiled by the bodies and cries of dead children and anyone else considered to be threat to the Greek army. Each character has their share in the book. Readers are able to learn about the multiple characters and feel the pain and heartache of family, friends and a beloved Smyrna. War provokes many emotions each felt with the words of which this book is written. I loved it.
